Supreme Court declines political reservation in the Advocates Association Bengaluru in the forthcoming elections.

1. The Supreme Court of India declined to grant/allow political reservation in the Advocate’s Association, Bengaluru in the elections scheduled to be held on 16:02:2025.
2. The Bench comprising of Justice Suryakanth and Justice Nongmeikapan Kotiswar Singh expressed the view that at present the Supreme Court is not inclined to grant the reservation and ordered the matters to be listed along with connected matter. 
3. The Special Leave Petition was filed against the judgement of the Karnataka High Court which had dismissed the writ petition seeking reservation in the Advocate’s Association, Bengaluru for the Scheduled caste, Scheduled Tribes, OBC and religious minorities.
4. Smt. Madhavi Diwan, Senior Advocate appeared for the petitioners. The Advocate’s Association, Bengaluru was represented by Mr. G.S. Kannur, Senior Advocate, Bangalore. 
5. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court, in exercise of its power under Article 142 ordered reservation of treasurer’s post in favour of women advocate. The matters are directed to be listed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the coming weeks.
